This is basic alegbra, you set up a proportions equations with dozen of cookies over butter. 6/ 3/4 equals 3/x. You cross multiply, 6x equals 2 1/4. You divide 6 on both sides of the equation to isolate x, the variable. 2 1/4 divided by 6 equals 0.375. The answer is 0.375 cups of butter

6 Dozen = 12 * 6 = 72  <- Irrelevant but useful information

3 dozen is half of 6 dozen, so we just half the recipe!
3/4 cup of butter = 3/8 cups (doubling the denominator is the same as halving)
1 1/2 cups of sugar (3/2 cups) = 3/4 cups

She needs 3/8 cups of butter, and a 3/4 cup of sugar
